Original Description

[Elliptical shell ornamented in concentric zones, marked by an elliptical central nucleus. Cellular zones 7 - 8, with the surface covered with short spines, very well preserved. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]

Size:
Length without spines 150µm, spines almost 19µm long.

Etymology:
Latin "ellipticus" (-a, -um) = ellipsoid

Distinguishing characters: This species and A. zonastro differ from Acanthosphaera, in that its nucleus is singular and related to Haliomma.
