Extra details from original publication
The genus Cenellipsis is the simplest and most primitive form, not only among the Ellipsida, but also among the Prunoidea, and it may therefore be regarded as the common ancestral form of the whole family. It corresponds to Cenosphaera among the Sphæroidea, to Cenodiscus among the Discoidea, to Cenolarcus among the Larcoidea. Probably it is derived from Cenosphaera by prolongation of one axis.

[Cenellipsis Rüst, 1885b, p.286 is a Nomen Nudum. Cenellipsis is here used without generic definition for ten species C. jaspidae, C. macropora, C. concava, C. typica, C. minuta, C. rappii, C. oblonga, C. monoceros, C. ovata and C. elongata.]
