Original Description Die Gattung Cornutella Ehbg.
Translation: Besides the forms already mentioned, the genus Cornutella (as understood by Ehrenberg, 1838) includes at least two groups of considerably different forms. One group, that I describe here under this new name, includes C. mitra, C. ? cucullaris, C. amplia and ? C. circulris Ehrenberg, from which I had the opportunity to study C. cucullaris and a form probably close to C. ampliata. Their cephalis presents the same ratio as in Carpocanium and Cyrtocalpis; it is well-developed, although so slightly distinguished from the first segment that these forms have an external shape of Monocyrtida (fig.36a, b). They originate, thus, from very primitive Dicyrtida. This sub-division presents itself, however, some problem. The construction of an anterior half ring a with the robust lateral apophyse h, the strongly upwards directed and incomplete posterior halve b, as well as the apophyse g directed downwards from the transversal bar e and anterior half ring, that pass on the first segment and correspond to the primary spines of Lithomelissa, may be considered, or not, as indicative of a correlation with the last present form. For the moment, this conclusion is not possible, however, completely sure. (Translation by J.P.C.)] Editors' Notes [Fig. 36 refers to C. cucullaris (Ehrenberg) in Butschli, 1882a.]
