Original Description

The spherical or radially tubercular porous skeleton consists of five to six concentric spherical or oval shells as well as of four to five inner, spaced concentric shells and an outer tuberculate one, which is separated by a considerable distance from the inner shells. The first (central) inner shell is always spherical; from it extend radially numerous bars and rods which interconnect all shells. Above each rod, there is a tubercle on the outer shell. The pores on the outer shell are distributed on the tubercles as well as between them. In the equatorial and vertical sections, the inner shells are of a cobweb-like structure which is completely similar in spherical as well as in biconvex forms. (In Russian. Translation via W.R. Riedel]

Etymology:
From the Latin conus = cone and the genus Caryomma.
