Original Description

Gitterschale einfach, ungegliedert, ausgeschweift kegelförmig, fast zeltförmig, oben in eine stumpfe Spitze ausgezogen, von welcher concav gebogene Radialbalken in dem Kegelmantel herablaufen, unten mit einer sehr weiten kreisförmigen Mündung geöffnet. Centralkapsel kegelförmig-birnförmig, in der Spitze eingeschlossen, ungelappt (?).

Translation:
Lattice shell, simple, not segmented, irregularly globose, nearly tent-shaped, upwardly terminated by a blunt end from which concave radial beams are downwardly directed in the envelope, and downwardly open with a very wide circular aperture. Central capsule globose-ellipsoidal, included inside the pointed end, non lobate (?). (In German. Translated by J.P.C.)]

Etymology:
From the Greek litharachnium = spider-web of stone
