Original Description

Small, urceolate shell having the cephalis and thorax subequal, the former globular with the proximal end squarely truncate, and distally bearing at least 4 short, conical, free, radial horns of which the frontal one is sometimes bifurcate, the longer horn (generally frontal) is less than the radius of the cephalis, the remainder being less than 0.5 that length; cephalis and thorax having a sharp, deep transverse collar stricture (its diameter 0.5 equator of cephalis); thorax distally truncated, generally bell-shaped with convex sides, usually being subsymmetrical, generally about 0.5 total length in length, and having the apertural margin squarely truncated and entire; often this margin is similar to or as much as twice the equator of the cephalis in diameter; pores of both cephalis and thorax nearly similarly circular except near the collar stricture where they are elliptical on the cephalis and again in the lower thorax where they are minutely squarish, or there are large elliptical ones sometimes in regular vertical rows save for odd interpolated small ones, the pores being rather closely set, numbering about a dozen (or more) across the cephalic equator, and 10 (or more) along the length of the thorax; generally the pores are of nearly similar size except as noted; wall nearly uniformly thin.

Size:
Total length 65µm; diameter of cephalis 41µm, of cephalic pores 2.2µm.

Etymology:
No information given

Distinguishing features: Lophophaena macrencephala n. sp. differs from radians Ehrenberg (1875) in its deep collar stricture, shorter horns, and less uniformity of pores. From galea Ehrenberg (1875) it differs in having longer horns as well as very different collar stricture and
