Original Description

Polycystinum compositum ex Haliommatinis. Testula silicea cellulosa laevis aut aspera transverse ad lineam rectam multiarticulata (4 artic.) nucleo interno medio (unico) sub strictura insignis.
Haliomma Amphisiphon 1844 forsan huc pertinet, sed profundi maris formae mirum in modum peculiares sunt.

Composite polycystin of the Haliommatinae. Siliceous, porous test, smooth or rough, divided into many segments (4) by straight lines, and with a single, median, internal nucleus under the stricture.
Haliomma amphisiphon 1844 perhaps belongs to this, but the forms from the floor of the sea are very peculiar. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]

From the Greek ommatocampe = caterpillar with eyes
