Original Description
Translation:
Cenosphaera resembles Pylosphaera, but does not have a distinctive aperture. Haliphormids are related to dictyospyrids, but are solitary and not paired, and have an aperture which is irregular, not simple. Acanthosphaerae are Cenosphaerae with radiating spines.
Cenosphaerae and Acanthosphaerae, when they have closed reticulate siliceous spheres without a well-defined aperture, differ from other polycystins, and perhaps belong to the ""carpella"" of the sponges. I have never seen included crystals. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]
