Original Description

6e. Tribus: Rhizosphaerida. Spongosphaeria polyacanthaa, (aculeis multis plerumque sine ordine dispersis).
A. testis medullaribus una vel pluribus.
AII. cortice sporigioso testas medullares sine intervallo involvente.
A. testa med. simplici.

Translation:
6e. Tribe: Rhizosphaerida. Spongosphaeria with many spines (the many spines, eight or more, usually scattered without definite arrangement).
A. With one or more medullary shells.
AII. With the spongy cortex not separated by a free interval from the medullary shell.
