Original Description

Spongurida with ellipsoidal or cylindrical shell of solid spongy framework, without internal cavity and without latticed medullary shell. On the poles of the axis occur two opposite strong spines.

Etymology:
From the Greek spongos = sponge, and prunon = plum.
