Original Description

Shell having five to eight elongated, similar, generally conical polar spines all in the same plane; globular cortical shell thick-walled, its surface with seven circular to oval pores across radius, these pores sunken into hexagonal areas from whose nodal angles extend short sepaloid points, but the whole surface is not pronouncedly burrlike as in some other species; medullary shell about 0.3 diameter of cortical shell, dense, with three to five irregular pores across a radius, and with strong supporting beams connecting to the outer shell.

Extra details from original publication
Distinguishing characters: Stylosphaera hexaxyphophora n. sp. is related to S. trixyphophora n. sp. but has six instead of three spines – much heavier on the latter than on the former – and much shorter and finer surface spinules.

Editors' Notes
