Original Description

Shell globular, minutely spiny, and with six elongate spines, those subequal, approximately equidistant, all in one plane, rather thin and almost needle-like, the base only three-angled, the remainder and most of the spine being rounded in cross section; cortical shell thick-walled, large, surface with subuniformly subcircular to oval pores, about seven in number across a radius, with sepaloid projections extended as short, sharp spines, the pores sunken within hexagonal areas; medullary shell about 0.3 diameter of cortical shell, very dense, with three to five pores of irregular shape across a radius, thick bars, and with six supporting beams.

Size:
Length of spines, 210µm, three of them broken in the type; diameter of cortical shell, 170µm; of medullary shell, 57.2µm; of pores, 11µm; thickness of wall of cortical shell, 17.6µm.

Extra details from original publication
Distinguishing characters: Stylosphaera hexaxyphophora hexaxyphophora n. subsp. differs from S. hexaxyphophora octoxyphophora n. subsp. and from hexaxyphophora pentaxyphophora n. var. in having six spines, these latter having eight and five spines respectively.
