Original Description

Shell globular with three equal elongate spines all in the same plane, not so thick as in other subspecies and more like those of S. megaxyphos megaxyphos, n. subsp. – one of the spines at one pole, the other two about 35° at the opposite pole, subequal, about ten times their basal diameter in length, three-angled with the interfaces concave. Cortical shell thick-walled, surface with subuniformly subcircular to oval pores, four to six across a radius, sunken into hexagonal areas with sepaloid projections; medullary shell small, less than a third the diameter of the cortical one, with three to five pores across a radius, bars thick, dense, beams six in one plane, about a fourth the diameter of the polar spines.

Size:
Length of spines, 200µm; diameter of cortical shell, 170µm; medulIary shell, 48.4µm; of pores, 8.8µm; width of wall, 13.2µm.

Extra details from original publication
Distinguishing characters: This subspecies differs from the other subspecies of S. megaxyphos n. sp. in having three instead of two polar spines. It differs from S. trixyphophora n. sp. in the lack of spines on the cortical shell.

Editors' Notes
The authors here list this subspecies under the subgeneric name Stylosphaerantha and include the subgeneric name in the species name.
