Original Description

Shell globular with two opposite polar spines of equal length, these spines exceedingly thin and sharp-tipped, needlelike except at the bases where they are expanded with two pairs of small, angular blades, otherwise circular in cross section and with very sharp tips; cortical shell spherical, wall moderately thick, surface with subcircular pores enclosed within subhexagonal areas and with small sepaloid points so that the surface is, as in S. minor minor n. subsp., smooth and trim, pores similar in numbers to those of the typical subspecies; medullary shell almost 0.4 diameter of cortical one, otherwise as in S. minor minor n. subsp.

Size:
Length of polar spines, 120µm; diameter of cortical shell, 80µm; of medullary shell, 32µm; of cortical pores, 10µm; width of wall of cortical shell, 12.2µm.

Extra details from original publication
Distinguishing characters: Stylosphaera minor leptoxyphos n. subsp. differs from S. minor minor n. subsps. chiefly in the character of the polar spines which are thinner, more definitely needlelike, and relatively longer than in S. minor minor n. subsp. Other differences are mainly those of dimensions.

Editors' Notes
[The authors here lists this subspecies under the subgeneric name Stylosphaerantha and include the subgeneric name in the species name.
