Original Description

Skelet eine kreisrunde oder verschieden gestaltete, flache oder biconvexe schwammige Scheibe, mit einfachen griffelförmigen oder nadelförmigen radialen Stacheln, im inneren Theile aus kreisrunden concentrischen Ringen von regelmässig geordneten Kammern, im äusseren aus regellos gehäuften Kammern zusammengesetzt.

Translation:
Flat, or biconvex, spongious disc of circular, or variable, outline with simple, spindle or claw-shaped, radial spines, constituted by an inner part of circular concentric rings of regularly distributed chambers, and an external area with irregularly distributed chambers. (In German. Translated by J.P.C.)]

Etymology:
From the Greek stylos = claw and spoggia = sponge.

Editors' Notes
Diese neue Gattung unterscheidet sich von der vorigen durch ihre radialen Anhänge und von der folgenden dadurch, dass diese Anhänge nicht schwammige Fortsätze, sondern einfache, solide Stacheln sind. Sie entspricht also vollkommen Spongotrochus in der Tribus der Spongodisciden und Spongosphaera in der Tribus der Spongosphaeriden. In den drei Unterfamilien der Disciden sind die entsprechenden Genera: Stylocycycia, Stylodictya und Stylospira.

[Synonymized with Patellula Kozlova by Empson-Morin, 1981]
