Current identification/main database link: Stichopilium pteides (Renz 1976)
Original Description
Dimensions: (4 specimens); length: 164-188 µ, Md 178; maximum breadth: 144- 164 µ, Md 156; feet: 16-20 µ, Md (18).
Type locality: 11° N, 155°W, plankton, 50-75 m.
Remarks: This species bears some similarity to Dictyocodon palladius but differs from it by the absence of an abdomen and the fine gauze type of meshwork typical for D. palladius. The cephalic structure is also very different. T. pteides differs from the other species in the genus by its cephalis to thorax ratio (1:6 vs. 1:2, 1:4, and 1:2), its simple double apical spines, and its very small and simple latticed feet. The specific name pteides is an anagram of the word pedites meaning feet.
