Catalog entries: Acanthosphaera tenuis
Original description: Shell very thin walled, about twenty times as broad as one pore. Meshes subregular, hexagonal, with thread-like bars; twelve to fourteen on the radius. At each nodal-point arises a bristle-shaped radial spine, about as long as the radius.
Diameter of the shell 300 to 35µm, pores 15 to 18µm, bars below 1µm; length of the spines 120 to 160µm.
Remarks on original description: There was no illustration of this species in Haeckel (1887)
Haeckel listed Acanthosphaera tenuis under the subgeneric name Rhaphidococcus, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.
