Taxonomy

Citation: Anomalacantha dentata Mast 1910
Taxonomic rank: species
Basionym: Anomalacantha dentata
Taxonomic discussion: (Mast) 1910 p 157 as Heteracantha; Benson 1966 p 170 pl 5 figs 10-11

Catalog entries: Heteracantha dentata

Original description: Poren trichterförmig, kreisrund, hex. begrenzt. | Fundort: Vald.: Atlantik Stat. 32 oo.

Phylogeny: The question of the transition of A. dentata dentata from A. dentata eocenica remains open. In the Atlantic Ocean and the Norwegian Sea, during the Eocene, many forms close to A. dentata eocenica, were differentiated, but they differ by slightly larger and more variable shells, a larger number of pores and less developed radial spines. It is possible that the genus Anomalacantha and other close Macosphaeridae took shape at that time.
Remarks on original description: dbl - changed dupl. eocenica record to dentata species record. 11.3.19
