Citation: Axoprunum losbanosensis (Clark&Campbell 1945)
taxonomic rank: species
Basionym: Stylosphaera losbanosensis
Taxonomic discussion: (Clark and Campbell) 1945, p.12, pl.1, figs.20-21; Shilov, 1995 (ODP 145 SR)

Catalog entries: Stylosphaera losbanosensis

Original description: Shell globular, with 2 opposite, similar polar spines, these spines very short (only 0.43 diameter of cortical shell in length), generally conical in outline (25°), with sharply pointed free tip, circular section, and simple base; cortical shell thick-walled and very prominent with reference to the short spines and with a smooth surface; medullary shell globular, small (approximately 0.3 diameter of cortical shell), with rather thin polygonal framework and having few fairly thin prismatic radial beams (probably not a dozen); pores of cortical shell similarly everywhere circular and of nearly the same size, relatively few (about 10 across a diameter), and rather deeply set; pores of medullary shell large and few; framework of cortical shell raised, thick, and polygonal but without strong sepaloid points so that the surface is not modified.
Remarks on original description: The authors here list Stylosphaera minor losbanosensis under the subgeneric name Stylosphaerantha and include the subgeneric name in the species name.[comment from RadWorld database]
