Translated description: [Small campanulate test, with an ovate cephalis armed with a long, 3-bladed, sword-shaped spine; second and third segment broadly swollen, porous; with a double row of short terminal spines, the external ones more numerous and the internal ones fewer. Very elegant and complete form. Total length 225 µ, cephalis with spine 94 µ, broad sword-shaped frontal spine 66 µ, cephalis alone 24 µ, first and second segments each 50 µ, terminal spines 15 µ. There are 6 distinct and 2 - 4 obsolete terminal spines in the exterior row, and 2 in the internal row at the aperture of margin. There is a smooth, entire ring between the wide, median, posterior aperture and the external spiny margin. 4 small pores in 23 µ on the cephalis; the pores of the second segment gradually increase in size with 3 - 21/2 in 23 µ, and in the third segment there are 2 - 1 3 /4. In a longitudinal row on the cephalis there are 5 pores, in the second segment 6, and in the third segment 3 - 4. Surface rough. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]"

Description

Published descriptions

Haeckel 1887 - Podocyrtis aegles

Shell conical, with three internal annular septa. Length of the four joints= 1:1:3:4. Cephalis subspherical, as large as the thorax, with a stout, pyramidal horn of three times the length, bearing at the apex a spinulate knob. The fourth joint is the broadest, and has large, circular, hexagonally-framed pores, two to three times as broad as the circular pores of the three first joints. Peristome witha double coronal of short, conical, divergent feet, nine on each coronal.

Dimensions: Length of the shell (with four joints) 0.16, breadth 0.11. Length of the single joints, a 0.02, b 0.02, c 0.05, d 0.07.
