Original description: Shell consists of two to three segments. Spherical cephalis, with a few circular to subcircular pores, often poreless or pitted, bearing a short conical horn that is usually no longer than the length of the cephalis. The cephalis is frequently enclosed in the proximally thickened part of the thoracic wall. A spongy layer covering the upper part of the thorax, the cephalis and extending upward onto the apical horn is sometimes present. The spongy layer, when present, obscures a slight change in contour at the collar stricture. Thorax thick-walled, inflated conical to subhemispherical, with densely packed circular pores arranged in a regular quincuncial pattern (giving the appearance of being longitudinally arranged). There are 3-5 pores per 40 microns on the widest part of the thorax. A slight change in the external contour marks the lumbar stricture. Internally a broad hyaline band constricts the aperture slightly. The abdomen is variable and much thinner-walled than the thorax, with small irregularly arranged pores. The shape of the abdomen varies from cylindrical to triangular prismatic. It may be long or short, tapering distally, closed or open terminally. Two or three thin, weakly bladed to flattened feet with a hollow channel are incorporated in the abdominal wall to the extent that the edges of the feet appear latticed and only the hollow channel is traceable. The subparallel feet vary in length and may extend beyond the abdomen.
Remarks on original description: The development of the proximal thickened spongy layer, the nature of the third segment and the presence of the two or three feet are variable character states in this species (see above).
