Über die beiden Seiten einer rundlichen, elliptischen oder eiförmigen Medianplatte, die aus concentrisch verlaufenden Septalbalken gebildet ist, welche durch Radialbalken geschnitten werden, erheben sich gleichförmig symmetrisch, mehr oder weniger hoch, zellig spongiöse Gebilde, so dass die ganze Form kugelig, ellipsoidisch oder auch linsenförmig wird. Über das ganze legen sich 2 poröse Deckplatte meist mit kleinen Stacheln besetz, und welchen sich an die Unebenheiten der darunter liegenden zelligen Masse anschliessen. Die Radialbalken der Medianplatte setzen nach aussen an der Peripherie als kleine Zacken umgebene Mündungsöffnung. Nicht selten befindet sich im Centrum der Medianplatte eine kleine Gitterkugel.
