Catalog entries: Plegmosphaera lepticali

Original description: Description: Hollow spongy oval shell with radii of axes ratio 1:3. Shell wall smooth, formed of a lattice plate with irregular polygonal meshes. Dimensions: (6 specimens) long axis: 120-288 µ, Md 164; short axis: 100-144 µ, Md 116.

Type locality: 11° N, 155°W, plankton, 125-200 m.

Remarks: This species differs from the other species in the subgenus Plegmosphaerantha Haeckel, in that its shell is egg-shaped or ellipsoidal while the others possess spherical shells. The specific name lepticali is an anagram of the word elliptica.
