This new genus combines characteristics of both the subfamilies Stichophormida and Stichophaenida in the family Phormocampida (superfamily Eucyrtidioidea according to the classification of Petrushevskaya 1971c). The generic name Udan is an anagram of the Latin word unda meaning wave. Gender feminine.
