Original description: Shell broadly egg-shaped, nearly one and half times longer than broad, greatest width slightly above the middle composed of a single, rather dense shell with a posterior pylome surrounded by rings of short spikelike spines, the diameter of the ring being about equal to a minor radius; surface generally smooth, but in one individual with many very short, fine needle-shaped spines; pores about eight to ten in a line across a minor radius, the pores funnel-shaped, often twisted irregularly; wall thick.
