Original Description
The biconvex, lenticular or discoidal skeleton consists of one hollow, porous shell. An equatorial ring extends in the form of a girdle along the edge of the disc. It consists of rectangular an polygonal cells, which form one or several concentric rings. With regard to thickness, there are usually several layers of concentric rings in the equatorial circle.
