Original Description

1b. Tribus: Xiphostylida. Monosphaeria dissacantha (aculeis duobus oppositis, in uno axi sitis).
A. aculeis liberis, non annulo conjunctis.
AI. ambobus aculeis aequalibus, forma et magnitudine paribus.

Translation:
1b. Tribe: Xiphostylida. Monosphaeria with two spines (two opposite spines, situated in one axis).
A. With spines free, not joined by a ring.
AI. With both spines equal, similar in form and size. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]

Etymology:
From the Greek xiphos = sword, and sphaira = sphere.
