Original Description
Shell thick walled, with irregular, roundish pores, about as broad as the bars. Radial spines arising from all nodal-points of the network, conical at the base, half as long as the radius.
Size: Diameter of the shell 150µm, pores and bars 5µm to 8µm; length of the spines 40µm.

Haeckel listed Acanthosphaea antarctica under the subgeneric name Rhaphidodrymus, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.[comment from RadWorld database]
