Original Description
Shell very thin walled, about twenty times as broad as one pore. Meshes subregular, hexagonal, with thread-like bars; twelve to fourteen on the radius. At each nodal-point arises a bristle-shaped radial spine, about as long as the radius.

Diameter of the shell 300 to 35µm, pores 15 to 18µm, bars below 1µm; length of the spines 120 to 160µm.

Editors' Notes
There was no illustration of this species in Haeckel (1887)
Haeckel listed Acanthosphaera tenuis under the subgeneric name Rhaphidococcus, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.
