Original Description
Acanthosphaerae sunt Cenosphaerae radiatim aculeatae. Cenosphaerae et Acanthosphaerae cum sine apertura bene discreta existant et sphaeras reticulatas siliceas clausas referant, a Polycystinis reliquis aberrant, forsan ad Spongiarum carpella pertinent, Inclusos crystallos nunquam vidi.
Translation: Acanthosphaerae are Cenosphaerae with radiating spines.Cenosphaerae and Acanthosphaerae, when they have closed reticulate siliceous spheres without a well-defined aperture, differ from other polycystins, and perhaps belong to the ""carpella"" of the sponges.
