Original Description
Central capsule lenticular, flattened, about three times as broad as high, with a thin, simple edged membrane. Nucleus lenticular, one-third as large as the capsule, with ten small dark nucleoli. Protoplasm transparent, colourless, filled with small vacuoles at regular distances; on the inside of the membrane in the circular periphery of the lens twenty dark oil-globules. Calymrna lenticular, twice as broad as the capsule.

Major axis of the capsule 150µm, minor 50µm; breadth of the nucleus 50µm, height 20µm; breadth of the calymma 30µm.

Etymology: Latin lenticularis, -is, -e = lense-shaped

There was no illustration of this species in Haeckel (1887)
Haeckel listed Actissa lenticularis under the subgeneric name Actidiscus, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.
