Catalog entries: Botryocella
Original description: Lithobotryida without tubes on the cephalis, and with the mouth of the thorax closed.
The genus Botryocella differs from the closely allied Botryopyle in having the mouth of the thorax closed, and may be derived from it by development of a lattice-plate, effecting this closure. It bears therefore the same relation to the latter that Dicolocapsa has to Dictyocephalus.
Remarks on original description: [Although Haeckel here refers to p.440 in his Prodromus [1881a], there is no generic name on that or any other page of that reference related to the name Botryocella.
Synonymized with Botryopyle Haeckel by Popofsky 1913, p.318, and Petrushevskaya, 1971b, p.161. BUT no more by Petrushevskaya in 1981a, p.325]
