Catalog entries: Cenosphaera cristata

Original description: Shell thick walled, rough. Pores irregular, roundish, surrounded by polygonal crested frames two to three times as broad as the bars, eight to twelve on the quadrant.

Diameter of the shell 160µm, pores 6-10µm, bars 3µm. Petr. 1975: Miocene individuals (Form B) have larger cortical shell (up to 150µm) and internal microspheres (polyhedra) very similar to Lonchosphaera. No external radial spines but some specimens have small by-spines. They occur in late Eocene-Oligocene.
Remarks on original description: Haeckel listed Cenosphaera cristata under the subgeneric name Cyrtidosphaera, but did not include the subgeneric name the species name.
