Original Description

[Microsphere almost adjacent to the spongious tissue. This tissue constitutes a spherical shell. It has the same structure as in Spongosphaera streptacantha: strong bars connecting as to form a thick felt-like envelope. In its cortical area, the siliceous threads are, however, thinner, and frame very closely distributed meshes. 16 to 30 straight radial beams. Secondary spines always originating from the spongious tissue, differently from in all species formerly described: none of them are outgrowing from the radial beams. (In French. Translation by J.P.C.)]

Size:
Microsphere (d=25µm). Spongious shell 900-1000µm. Meshes from the spongious tissue 30-40µm. Bars 2-2.5µm. Interval between C1 and C2 25-30µm. Total length of radial beams 725µm. In their free parts (200µm) the radial beams bear 4 to 5 verticils of spines. Central capsule larger than 550µm in large individuals.

Extra details from original publication
Distinguishing characters: Differs from Centrocubus ruber by a black pigmented central capsule.
