Remarks on original description: [Campbell [1954, p.D136] considers Clathropyrgus Haeckel,1881a, to be an objective synonym of Stichopterygium Haeckel, 1881a. He designates Artopilium trifenestrata Haeckel, 1887a as the type species of Stichopterygium and only by inference of Clathropyrgus. Therefore, we consider that no type species has been designated for Clathropyrgus. Species first subsequently assigned to Clathropyrgus are Artopilium cornutella Haeckel, 1887a, A. curvatum Haeckel, 1887a, A. stichopterygium Haeckel, 1887a, A. trifenestra Haeckel, 1887a, A. trigonopterum Haeckel, 1887a and Lithocampe anomala Haeckel, 1860b.]
