Original Description
This subgenus comprises L. baueri and L. thomburgi, commencing with the earliest form in which the lumbar stricture has disappeared. Shell two-segmented, elongate-ellipsoidal to fusiform; thoracic wall of spongy meshwork or a lattice with irregular pores.

Etymology: The taxon is named after Global Marine Inc., on whose vessel, the Glomar Challenger. a substantial part of the work leading to this paper was accomplished. in recognition of their contributions to scientific drilling in the open ocean.
