Taxonomy

Citation: Lithomelissa Ehrenberg 1847
Rank: genus
Basionym: Lithomelissa
Taxonomic discussion: Campbell (1954, p.D122) designated L. tartari Ehrenberg (1854a, table to p.66) as the type species for the genus Lithomelissa. This seems inappropriate since the species was never described, or figured, by Ehrenberg nor is it figured in the collection of Ehrenberg's original drawings (Ehrenberg Collection, Museum für Naturkinde, Berlin). Therefore, L. microptera is the correct type species by subsequent monotypy.

Catalog entries: Lithomelissa

Original description: Testae strictura unica, neutro fine lobato, latera spinis alta

Translated description: Test with a single stricture. Neither end lobate. Lateral wing-like spines. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]
