Original Description
Shell tiny, stout (1.3 maximum diameter in length); cephalis hornless, hemispherical, and nearly 0.5 total length in diameter, cervix strongly indented, whole like a huge knob; thorax bell-shaped (32°) with decidedly convex sides, its free margin irregular (torn ?), about same in diameter as cephalis, and with three very short, distally blunted, conical, terminal feet; surface of cephalis roughened, of thorax smooth; wall of cephalis thicker than thorax; pores of cephalis smaller than those of thorax, deeply set, scattered, closely set, circular, of thorax, about twice as large as those of cephalis, commonly elliptical, shallow, fairly well separated and scattered.

Length, total, 99µm; diameter of maximum, 55µm, of largest pores, 8.8µm. Distinguishing characters (rw): Lychnodictyum aberrans n. sp. differs chiefly from scaphopodium (Haeckel, 1887), a recent, Central Pacific species and only other one without an apical ham, in having feet not lobular nor latticed and margin between them less arched.

Etymology: No information given, but: Latin abberans -antis = abnormal
