Apertura testae duplex opposita. Testa articulata, stricturis duabus aut pluribus. Corporis utroque fine coarctato. Appendicibus mediis in articulo penultimo alata. Spinosis decurrentibus.
Translation: Aperture of the test double, opposite. Test segmented, with two or more strictures. Body narrowing at each end. With lateral wing-like appendages in the penultimate segment. Spines decurrent. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]
Etymology: From the Greek pteron = wing, and caneon = basket.
