Original Description
Skelet wird durch mehrere einzelne, solide Spicula von zweierlei oder mehrerlei verschiedener Gestalt vertreten, welche gewöhnlich in tangentialer Lagerungrings, um jede der gesellig verbundenen Centralkapseln in deren Matrix zerstreut sind.

Diese Gattung zeichnet sich vor allen anderen, bis jetzt bekannten, mit Spicula versehenen Radiolarien dadurch aus, dass die Centralkapseln (Nester) von zweierlei (oder mehrerlei) ganz verschieden gestalteten Arten von Spicula umgeben sind. Sie unterscheidet sich dadurch wesentlich von dem früher damit vereinigten Sphaerozoum im engeren Sinne, bei welchem stets alle Spiculä einer und derselben Species vo'n gleicher Gestalt sind.
