Original Description
Polycystynum compositum ex Haliommatinis. Testae siliceae subglobosae membrana cellulose nucleo celluloso instructa. Membrana externa saepe imperfecta aut dehiscens ita, ut saepius utrinque bifida inveniatur.

A Ioh. Muellero his affines formae vivae in mari siculo observatae sunt, quas Haliommatis Amphidisci et Tetrapylae nomine in duobus generibus reposuit. Abhandl. der Akad. 1858.

Haliommatis genus testae membrana externa cellulosa clausa differt.

Translation: Schizomma. Composite polycystin of the Haliommatinae. Siliceous, subglobose tests with a porous membrane and a porous nucleus. External membrane often imperfect or split, so that it appears bifid on both sides.

Living forms related to these have been found in the Sea of Sicily by Joh. Mueller, and he placed them in 2 genera under the name of Haliomma amphidiscus and Tetrapyle. Abhandl. der Akad. 1858.

The genus Haliomma differs in that the external porous membrane of the test is closed. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]
