Original Description
Gitterschale mehrgliedrig, durch eine ringförmige Querstrictur in 2 über einander liegende ungleiche Glieder abgetheilt, von denen das zweite (untere) wieder durch eine halbringförmige Längsstrictur (parallel der Längsaxe) in 2 neben einander liegende gleiche Glieder zerfällt; die Mündung (am Basalpol der Schale) übergittert.

Translation: Multi-segmented shell, divided into two superposed irregular segments by an annular transversal constriction, the second (lower) segment being itself divided by a semi-annular longitudinal constriction in two juxtaposed similar segments, and the opening at the basis of the shell lattice. Etymology: From the Greek spyris = fish basket, botrys = grape.
