Cephalis hemispherical to dome-shaped, porous, with or without short external spines. It is composed of three lobes of which the eucephalic one is usually discernible externally by a certain stricture corresponding to the place of DR. Ante- and postcephalic lobes are equal in size. Thorax may be developed, but is short with an obscure collar stricture. Wall thin, bearing numerous, short by-spines on the upper half. Pores are circular to oval, variable in size, without regular arrangement. Skeletal construction as with genus; Ax wartlike or absent. All of the elements of the skeleton are circular in cross section. Remarks.—This species is similar to Helotholus vema Hays but is distinguished from the latter species by its smaller test dimensions, common development of D, shorter Ax, and complete lack of V.
