Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Fohsella): G. peripheroronda - lenguaensis - fohsi - robusta lineage
This taxon: Like F. lenguaensis but less circular and test less tightly coiled

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.

Description

Morphology:
Test low trochospiral, the spire opens slowly, later more rapidly; equatorial profile ovate, very slightly lobulate; axial pro- file unequally biconvex, with more vaulted ventral side; peripheral margin with a dis- tinct imperforate carina, chambers 6 to 8 in the final whorl, less tightly coiled; spiral sutures on early chambers strongly curved, later more nearly radial, depressed; on umbilical side almost radial, depressed; surface smooth, densely perforate; umbilicus closed; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical, a low arch bordered by a lip. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Wall type:
Non-spinose; Smooth [Aze 2011]

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Geographic distribution

Tropical to warm subtropical. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983] Low latitudes [Aze et al. 2011, based on Kennett & Srinivasan (1983)]

[SCOR WG138]

Isotope paleobiology
Aze et al. 2011 ecogroup 3 - Open ocean thermocline. Based on light δ13C and relatively heavy δ18O. Sources cited by Aze et al. 2011 (appendix S3): Keller (1985); Hodell & Vayavananda (1993)

Phylogenetic relations
Gr. (Gr.) paralenguaensis is intermediate between Gr. (Gr.) lenguaensis Bolli and Gr. (Gr.) merotumida Blow and Banner. The former has a more circular equatorial profile and a tightly coiled test; the latter differs in possessing a distinct keel. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Most likely ancestor: Fohsella lenguaensis - at confidence level 4 (out of 5). Data source: Kennett & Srinivasan 1983, fig. 17.

Biostratigraphic distribution

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within N16 zone (8.58-9.83Ma, top in Tortonian stage). Data source: Chaisson & Pearson (1997)
First occurrence (base): within N15 zone (9.83-10.46Ma, base in Tortonian stage). Data source: Chaisson & Pearson (1997)
