Synonyms:
Taxonomic discussion: This is a rare and poorly documented species and arguably a dustbin for Pontosphaera specimens with mediim pores. It may prove to encompass more than one species or even simply to represent variants of other species.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Pontosphaera): Coccoliths are muroliths, central area with variable number of perforations. V-units form narrow imbricate outer wall, R-units form inner wall and central-area.
This taxon: Rim elevated, 3 or more cycles of medum-size pores.

Coccoliths similar to BCs of Scyphosphaera apsteinii BCs, but usually thicker and rim more clearly elevated
