Reinhardtites elkefensis

Classification: ntax_mesozoic -> Eiffellithales -> Chiastozygaceae -> Reinhardtites -> Reinhardtites elkefensis
Sister taxa: R. anthophorus, R. levis ⟩⟨ R. clavicaviformis, R. elkefensis, R. sp.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Reinhardtites): Unicyclic muroliths with very broad rim and narrow central-area spanned or filled by a tranverse bar.
This taxon: Bulbous central structure

Taxonomy:

Citation: Reinhardtites elkefensis (Perch-Nielsen, 1981) Varol 1991
Taxonomic rank: species
Basionym: Podorhabdus? elkefensis Perch-Nielsen, 1981
Taxonomic discussion: This is an unusual species and the affinity is not clear, but the SEM images of Perch-Nielsen (1981) strongly suggest that this a murolith with an imbricate wall, so it should be included in the Chiastozygaceae not the Axopodorhabdaceae, hence the combination in Reinhardtites proposed by Varol (1991) is preferable to leaving it in Podorhabdus. [my interpretation - JRY 2018]
