Taxonomy

Citation: Clavihedbergella Banner&Blow 1959
taxonomic rank: Genus
Type species: Hastigerinella subcretacea Tappan, 1943

Original description: Test trochoid, evolute dorsally, more or less involute ventrally and umbilicate. Early chambers subglobular, later becoming increasingly elongate in a radial direction. Wall generally hispid, uniformly perforate. lacking imperforate peripheral bands, carinae or costellae. Aperture ventral, interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical, sometimes reaching periphery of the preceding whorl but not extending on to the dorsal surface or becoming equatorial. Test not biumbilicate. Apertures furnished with portici, but lacking tegilla or bullae. No supplementary or accessory apertures. but relict apertures may be present.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Clavihedbergella, Praeglobotruncana (Clavihedbergella)

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Hedbergellidae): Test trochospirally coiled, primary aperture interiomarginal, extraumbilical-umbilical, with prominent apertural lip, apertures of earlier chambers remain visible around the umbilical region; no sutural secondary apertures.
This taxon: Test flattened, early globular chambers in a low trochospiral coil, last few chambers radially elongate to subclavate in the plane of coiling, peripheral outline lobulate, rounded peripheral margin with an imperforate band on the globular chambers but absent from the elongate ones; aperture a moderately high interiomarginal umbilical-extraumbilical arch, with imperforate bordering lip, and poorly developed relict apertures remaining in the umbilical area.

Geological Range:
