taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Globigerina infracretacea

Taxonomic discussion: The name Globigerina infracretacea subsp. gargasiana Moullade, 1961 was proposed to avoid a homonym, but this is superfluous if trochoidea is placed in Hebdbergella instead of Globigerina

[The very small test consists of 15 to 16 chambers of which 5 to 6 form the last volution. It is flat-trochospiral, chambers are arched and distinctly separated, and enlarge only very gradually. Umbilicus is open but small. Aperture is not directed towards umbilicus, but is located at the base of the last chamber and within direction of the coil. - Translation from Chornos website]

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globigerina infracretacea, Globigerina infracretacea trochoidea, Globigerina infracretacea gargasiana, Globigerina aptica, Hedbergella beegumensis

Emended description:

Test medium sized, coiled in a flat to slightly convex trochospire; 2 to 2.5 whorls; 5 to 5.5 (rarely 4.5) globular to subglobular chambers in the outer whorl, increasing gradually and slowly in size as added; equatorial periphery subcircular to slightly ovoid, slightly to moderately lobate; sutures depressed, radial mainly straight; umbilical area rather small and shallow; aperture as a low to medium arch bordered by a lip. Wall finely perforate, smooth or with the first chambers of the last whorl covered by perforation cones. [Huber & Leckie,2011, p. 67]: Emended description. Test wall relatively thick (4 to 6 mm), finely perforate, most chambers in the final whorl are densely covered by perforation cones that may coalesce (e.g., Fig. 5.9b), and internal chamber wall may also show slightly raised cones surrounding each pore (Fig. 4a). Test medium sized, coiled in a nearly flat to slightly convex trochospire with 2 to 2.5 whorls; 5 to 6 (rarely 4.5) globular to subglobular chambers in the final whorl, increasing gradually in size, never radially elongate, last chamber often kummerform; equatorial periphery subcircular to slightly ovoid, slightly to moderately lobate; sutures depressed, radial, mainly straight; umbilical area rather narrow and deep; aperture a low to medium umbilicalextraumbilical arch with a thin imperforate rim, but never bordered by a lip or other periapertural structures. You have also in the synonymy :

Globigerina infracretacea subsp. gargasiana Moullade, 1961 an unnecessary nomen novum of Globigerina infracretacea subsp. trochoidea Moullade, 1960

why was it a superfluous name?

Moullade was considering the genus Hedbergella as useless. If it had been confirmed his subsp. would have been a junior homonym of Hedbergella trochoidea (Gandolfi)= Anomalina lorneiana (d'Orb.) trocoidea Gandolfi, 1942

this is quite complex, I think I have explained it, but I will ask Brain to take a look
