Pseudoemiliania lacunosa

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Isochrysidales -> Noelaerhabdaceae -> Pseudoemiliania -> Pseudoemiliania lacunosa
Sister taxa: P. lacunosa, P. ovata, P. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Pseudoemiliania lacunosa Kamptner, 1963 ex Gartner, 1969
taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Pseudoemiliania lacunosa Kamptner, 1963 ex Gartner, 1969
Synonyms:
Taxonomic discussion: This species was invalid when originally described by Kamptner (1963), since he assigned it to a provisional genus - Ellipsoplacolithus. It was subsequently validated by Gartner (1969), when he assigned it to his new genus Pseudoemiliania. For an extended explanation of this see van Heck (1990).

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Pseudoemiliania): With slits between some of the distal shield elements
This taxon: Circular to sub-circular with >12 slits, length >4µm

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: E. lacunosus * , E. exsectus * , S. kamptneri *

Morphology:

Coccoliths circular to sub-circular with >12 slits, length >4µm. Abundant in the Late Pliocene, but well-developed, large, circular forms only occur in the Pleistocene.

Search data:
LITHS: placolith, circular, elliptical, CA: ca_conjunct, grill, vacant,
CSPH: equant, monomorphic, CROSS-POLARS: rim-unicyclic, R-prominent,
Lith size: 4->7µm;

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): at top of NN19 zone (100% up, 0.4Ma, in Ionian stage). Data source: zonal marker, e.g. Young 1998
First occurrence (base): within NN15 zone (3.70-3.92Ma, base in Zanclean stage). Data source: Young 1998

In syn. you put in bracket (Coccolithus). Did you mean Coccolithites for Coccolithites annulus Cohen, 1964?
