Original description: Cells saddle-shaped, about 5-6 µm long and wide. The two flagella equal, about 12 µm. Haptonema length varying from 32 to 50 µm. Two chloroplasts. Cells covered with two types of scale arranged in two layers: those of the inner layer flat, 0.29-0.31 µm in diameter, those of the outer layer 0.31-0.36 µm with an upright rim. The two scale types otherwise iden tical. The centre of the scale with a cruciate structure sur rounded by an open ring. Approximately 25 ribs radiate from the central ring to the margin, crossed by spiralling ribs.
